Green Party leader Eamon Ryan TD has welcomed the news of the climate change legal challenge to the National Planning Framework/National Development Plan.
Speaking today, he said: “Our response to the draft National Planning Framework (NPF) when it was published last year was that we were deeply disappointed. We called for the NPF to set out the path to the low-carbon, climate resilient and environmentally sustainable economy in the areas of spatial planning land use and infrastructure. Unfortunately the Framework and the National Development Plan when they were published jointly as Project 2040 remain business as usual plans, incredibly plans to increase emissions overall when we know radical reductions are what is required.
“The Government must face up to the reality of the goal set by the Oireachtas in the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Bill and amend the National Planning Framework and National Development Plan to drive the decarbonisation of Irish society.”
